2004 & Tucson

These are my collection of photos that I took in 2004, and includes my assignment in Tucson.

There is a collection of the ten best at the bottom.

Donington Park, with BookaTrack

13th March 2004

A track day with many people from Buzzez. Some great shots assisted by perfect photography weather giving reflections and rainbows.

Sunseeker Rally 2004, Bournemouth.

28th Feb 2004

This was a great rally to watch, far better than the Rally GB's I've been to in Wales. Warmer, Dryer, less crowded, better organised and more friendly. It's well worth a trip.

Ducks.

2nd May 2004

A couple of days shooting ducks in the local park near my parents produced some suprising results. I spent the weekend complaining about the greyness and lack of light, but I actually took some superb photos.

Birds in the New Forest.

8th Feb 2004

A few reasonable shots of birds taken at close range near some feeders. Nothing particularly artistic.

Swans

July 2004

Just the 4 photos, but I'm pleased with them, even if I did break my S45 in the process of taking one of them.

Ferrari's at the Autosport Show 2003

10th Jan 2004

Possibly a little better than the main Autosport Show photos. Most of these were taken in 'Galleria Ferrari', a special enclosure which limited the number of people crowded around each car. I'm quite pleased with some of the F40/F50/Enzo shots.

Humber bridge

29th December 2003

This was a combination of visiting friends up north and entering a challenge about bridges. The challenge part did make me think more creatively about photographing the bridge. My lasting memory is that there was virtually no light thanks to being so far north, in the middle of winter on a grey day.

First weekend in Tucson

25th April 2004

My first weekend in Tucson, exploring Mount Lemmon with Jonny and Dave Sharik. Features the rebuilding of Summerhaven from the fire the previous year, Jonny's Galant and a distant mine.

Grand Canyon with Hamish, Dave and Jonny.

1st May 2004

The second of my trips to the Grand Canyon. Photos include Jonny jumping on a rock that Hamish is lying on - the rock overhangs a large cliff and moves when being jumped on. Ah, the stupidity of youth.

Sedona, with Dave and Jonny.

2nd May 2004

On the way back to Tucson we stopped at Sedona and took a Pink Jeep Tour. We also tried silly photos with the moon while waiting for sunset.

Train Sunset, Wilmot Rd.

14th May 2004

This includes a few good shots, including possibly my best ever, taken from the centre of the railroad crossing, as shown in the thumbnail on the right.

Saguaro National Park

16th May 2004

General photos from Saguaro National Park, including a nice sunset, a Gila Woodpecker and various cactus flowers.

Pima Air & Space Museum, 1st Visit.

23rd May 2004

One of my favorite places in Tucson, well worth a visit if you go there.

AMARC (Aircraft Boneyard)

28th June 2004

It's hard to convey what AMARC (Aircraft Maintainence And Regeneration Centre) is like through photos. The tour is on a coach so all the photos are taken through windows. There are a lot of planes there though.

Photos of Jonny

July 2004

A compilation I did for Jonny's friends and relatives. Includes the good, the bad and the downright ugly, rather than just the best pics. I may trim or remove this page soon.

4th July Roadtrip, Day 1 - Tucson --> Flagstaff.

2nd July 2004

Some great shots of great cars. The one of the rear of the mustang is one of my personal favorites, as is the final shot of Jonny and Alex, especially Alex's expression. The Jonny and Alex one was costly though - I was using a pint of lemonade as a tripod. As I removed the camera I threw the lemonade all over myself which was hugely embarrassing.

4th July Roadtrip, Day 2 - Zion and Red Canyon

3rd July 2004

The second day of the 4th July roadtrip, exploring Zion National Park, Red Canyon and part of Bryce Canyon.

4th July Roadtrip, Day 3, Part I. Slot canyons.

4th July 2004

My main reason for the road trip, to re-visit Spooky and Peekaboo Gulches in Grand Staircase Escalente National Monument. It was far hotter than I expected and I should've taken more water, but it was as beautiful as I remembered from my holiday.

4th July Roadtrip, Day 3, Part II. Bryce Canyon.

4th July 2004

After the slot canyons, we went for a walk around Bryce, before watching the 4th July fireworks at Ruby's Inn. Check out the silly photo of Jonny.

4th July Roadtrip, Day 4, Grand Canyon.

4th July 2004

On the last day we dropped by the Grand Canyon so Alex could see it. We were going to torment him by entering the park then turning back, making him one of very few people who have visited the park, but not seen the canyon. We saw the east end of the park, which is well worth a visit.

Titan II Missile Silo

10th July 2004

Scary stuff. Especially the first couple of pics which make the place feel like a fast food restaurant.

First monsoon storm

14th July 2004

The first bit of storm chasing we did. We followed this storm as it wandered slowly across town, and I took a million photos. A lot of these photos are jpegs in pain, and I'll try to regenerate them from the originals when I get a chance.

Chiricahua National Monument.

22nd Aug 2004

A nice photo of a lizard, but thats about it. A disappointing day for photography.

Weekend in San Diego

27-19th Aug 2004

The most boring drive in the world ever was worth it to see San Diego. The ocean was something neither Jonny nor I had seen for quite some time, and a welcome departure from the desert. The zoo made photography like shooting fish in a barrel. The long eared fox is my favorite.

Summer selection.

July & Aug 2004

Everything from monsoon photos, through dead presidential helicopters to rattlesnakes and taranchulas... Oh, and how could I forget that tortoise, may he rest in piece.

Family holiday 2004

23rd-29th Oct 2004

These pics are from when my family came out to visit in October. We visited the Grand Canyon, Vegas, Tombstone, the Desert Museum and the Pima Air and Space Museum. This gets a 5 star rating partly through quantity, but there are some great pics in there, the Grand Canyon Butte one and Luxor interior shots rank up there with my favorites.

Family photos from the family holiday

23rd-29th Oct 2004

As above. Photos of note are Dad at the canyon, Stan pointing at the sunset, Stan in his coyboy hat and Kate levitating under the F14.

November selection

November 2004

A selection of 5 photos taken randomly in November.

Biosphere 2

14th November 2004

A trip to Biosphere 2, just north of Tucson, with Thomas, Lee, Jonny and Dan. A good location to try out my new 12-24mm lens.

Mount Lemmon Snow

25th November 2004

Thomas, Dan and I went up Mount Lemmon to admire the snow. Brrrr.

White Sands, NM

26th November 2004

This was a day trip to White Sands National Monument, New Mexico, with Dan, Jonny, Thomas, Diana and Diana's mystery friend. Lots of these photos were taken with my S45 to protect the 10D from sand.

Pima Air & Space Museum, #3

5th December 2004

This was my last visit to the museum, I took just my wide angle lens in an attempt to get different photos to previous visits.

Top Ten

2004

These are the 10 best photos taken while I was in Tucson.
