2006

All the photos from 2006.

Hampshire vs Warwickshire, LCCC Cricket

19th August 2006

I got tickets to watch a cricket match as a birthday present, so I went on the last day of a county match vs where I could watch Warwickshire. It turned into a thriller. Warwickshire won on the last ball, after a long day that ended at 7:30.

Farnborough Air Show

22nd July 2006

Photos from a very wet Farnborough Air Show. I finally got to try out my waterproof camera bag. Unfortunately. Lots of great stuff to see, afterburners and fast planes.

Black and White film.

Spring 2006

Various photos taken with my film camera and a roll of Ilfords finest. Most of these are taken with my 12-24mm lens, which is a genuine 12mm on my film body. So there are lots of interior shots, especially of churches.

Goodwood Festival of Speed

7th July 2006

Photos from the festival of speed. I could easily spend a week walking around this event, it was superb.

I am scampy

7th July 2006

Also at the festival of speed, I took a few joke photos. Damian Wilson aka Scampy (who also sells on catchincolour), took a superb photo of a honda badge on his car. Lots of joking and micky taking ensued, and I spent 10 mins wandering around the honda stand taking photos of badges on everything from f1 cars to hedge trimmers.

Weekend in London

13th/14th May 2006

A few holiday snaps from a weekend away in london, including the natural history museum and some street performers.

Beaulieu Autojumble

20th May 2006

A trip to the spring autojumble at Beaulieu brought up a few good photo opportunities.

North Weald Drifting Day.

6th July 2006.

This was a lot of fun. A drifting day organised by Karl from mx5mad.com. I managed to do a great trick where I exitted a doughnut with no hands on the wheel - the video is here; video, 3mb

8 Cruise ships

23rd April - 1st May 2006

Tradition seems to dictate that I should show a load of ferries or ships on a regular basis, so here's enough cruise liners to shake a stick at. The first batch was taken when there were 5 in Southampton docks for the first time in nearly 50 years. The second are from the weekend when the new worlds largest liner "Freedom of the Seas" visited.

New Macro Lens

April 2006

I've got a new toy! A sigma 50mm f2.8 1:1 macro lens. I'm seeing the world in a whole new light - mostly with muddy elbows! It's a challenge to use correctly, getting enough light on the subject, very small depths of fields competing with slow shutter speeds where 0.1mm is too much camera shake. The results however speak for themselves, I'm really quite proud of them and you should expect more to come.

New Forest

16th & 22nd April 2006

Just a few pics from when my sister and her boyfriend came to visit and we went to the New Forest. There are a couple of other photos from the following week in the forest too.

Blue Reef Aquarium, Southsea.

28th April 2006.

I was hoping for more photos than this, but the aquarium is a very dark place, and fish move very quickly, so there are only a few shots I'm afraid.

2 Weeks in Tucson

April 2006

Again, only a few photos here. This is because I took so many shots during my 2 weeks in Tucson, I had to separate them out into 4 updates, so see the 4 wheeling, spring fling and drag racing updates below.

4 Wheeling on Mount Lemmon.

2nd April 2006

Superb fun. My first real off roading experience, with Dan, Dave, Wes and Chris and a trio of Jeeps. Being Solihull born, I'm obliged to say that a Land-Rover would've been better, but I was really impressed with what these machines could do. Dan really needs a lift kit though ;)

Az Spring Fling '06

7th April

The largest student organised funfair in the states, according to the adverts. It was an opportunity to play with low light, long exposure trail photography, aided by a powerful flash.

Tucson Dragway Reunion Drag Race.

8th April 2006

I knew these things were loud, but I didn't realise how toxic the fumes were! Anyway, I survived, and I have to say that the drag racers are one of the friendliest bunch of people you could meet. Some of them were desperate to get their cars finished in time to qualify, yet still avoided getting in the way of my photography. I'm sure F1 people wouldn't let me take photos of engine internals after gatecrashing their pits either.

Paris

19th March 2006

I finally managed to return to Paris in good weather. Something I've been attempting for ages. I only had a few hours there, just long enough to do the Arc de Triomphe, and the base of the Eiffel Tower. Even with such a shortime frame, I think I got some good shots in. Also I drove the Arc de Triomphe, another challenge ticked off.

Spitfire 70th Anniversary

5th March 2006

This was the 70th anniversary of the test flight of the spitfire, so a group of 5 flew down Southampton water. I took a few predictible shots and tried some candids. Nothing special, but keeping in practice. The disappointment was the height and speed at which the planes flew. Too high and too slowly. It wasn't even possible to hear the merlin engines, and the propellers don't appear blurred either.

Highcliffe beach

4th March 2006

Just a few pics from a short trip to the beach.

I'm getting married!

14th February 2006.

Because of the number of church photos I've been doing recently, Leeanne took me to show me her local church on Valentines day. Built in 1215 with paintings from 1250, it's a quiant church and where Florence Nightingale is buried. Anyway I decided that it was where I want to get married... if I got married. The conversation got deeper and deeper into talk of weddings and we planned quite a bit. I decided that as we were talking as if we were engaged, we should get engaged. So on the way out of the church, I got down on one knee in the porch and proposed. Later in the afternoon we bought a ring, and in the evening I proposed again in a restaurant, in public with a ring. Awww. The date is set for May 5th '07.

Bull Ring

4th/5th February 2006

These shots were taken mainly at the Bull Ring in Birmingham, and also around Birmingham City Centre, St Martins Church at the Bull Ring and Stratford upon Avon. The Bull Ring is a superb place for photography and I expect i'll go back another time to shoot some more. The only problem is that you can't shoot inside, at least not officially.

Winchester Cathedral

11th February 2006

Photos mainly of the cathedral. I was shooting for a challenge called 'Perspective' so a lot of the shots show a lot of depth and use my wide lens. Sorry if any of them make you feel ill, I was playing will pushing and pulling zoom mid long exposure.

First Spinnaker Tower trip

Jan 22nd

A mixed bunch. Nothing to write home about, but it does include a ferry and sunset shot to please all of those who have been waiting sooo long for one. I'm back!

Autosport Show 2006

14th January 2006

The first shoot of the year, and an attempt to shoot the autosport show differently. Out with the wide lenses, and full car shots, in with details, girls and an opportunity to shoot some candids. Hopefully something a bit different to those shot in '04 and '05. Having said that the target material was almost identical to '05 and I have to wonder whther it's worth returning in 2007 or not.
