About
My name is Richard Hopkins, and I’ve been calling myself an amateur photographer since 2003, when I started out with a Canon S45 digital compact.
I mostly shoot travel and automotive photography, and dabble in the use of different techniques, from infrared, to cross-processing. I love trying both new and old techniques, and as a result my kit list includes a variety of both digital and film cameras.
I have been running esses as a photography blog since 2004, way before blogging software was common. This is the third version of the site, and the first to be written with wordpress, rather than notepad.

2004-7
Currently the old site is still viewable here.
In 2007 I signed up with flickr. This allowed me to share my very best photos with a wider audience. For every time I took my camera somewhere, about 3 shots would make it onto flickr, and around 20 onto esses.co.uk.
During 2008 I had very little time, both for photography and updating the website, so it fell into disuse, with flickr becoming my only place to post new images.
I have far more time available now, and intend to update the website frequently once again. There will be a slight change to the type of posts which appear. In addition to the photo sets, I intend to include items on my camera gear, and on techniques used.
