Holiday '04

This page concentrates on the best of the photos from my 2004 roadtrip. At the bottom is a link to the full 200MB version which will take an age to look through. Probably best to stick with this one.

San Francisco

18-20th March, 1st April 2004

Lots and lots and lots of photos. Sunsets, streets, bridges, prisons, you name it, it's here. My favorites include the sunset looking down (literally) lombard street and the shots of the empty interior of Alcatraz.

Lake Tahoe

21st March 2004

Yosemite was closed for the winter, so my route took me past Lake Tahoe, a skiing and gambling town, where I spent the night.

Death Valley National Park

22nd - 23rd March 2004

Death Valley is a place where the scenery changes dramatically in just a few miles. It's well worth a visit if you go near there, but not in summer.

Zion National Park

24th March 2004

A stunning place, especially above the Mount Carmel Tunnel. When I was there (off-season) you did not need to take a bus down the canyon which was great as it made the whole experience much quicker, and the convertible made sightseeing easier.

Bryce Canyon / Grand Staircase Escalente

24th - 25th March 2004

The Grand Staircase Escalente National Monument is one of the most beautiful places in the world, and a real hands on place at that. Exploring the slot canyons is an experience I won't forget.

Grand Canyon

26th - 28th March 2004

Well, I've been there 4 times since and it's still stunning. This time was the only visit where I had Californian Condors playing for the camera though.

Route 66

27th - 28th March 2004

Route 66 has some great 50's and 60's Americana, from the diners trying to be retro, to the genuine old motels that just haven't been updated in 50 years.

Hoover Dam

28th March 2004

Very impressive, not what I was expecting at all really. I was expecting a lump of concrete, but found some superb 1930's architecture. It wasn't holding back nearly as much water as it should though, hopefully the drought will end soon.

Las Vegas

29th March 2004

Viva Las Vegas! I'm going on a major trip to Vegas in April 2005, so expect more photos soon. All these shots were taken with my S45 as I didn't feel happy alone with the 10D.

Monterey

31st March - 2nd April 2004

A stunning bit of the Pacific coastline, containing Cannery Row andmany championship golf courses such as Spyglass Hill.
